I like how after bad sex with Dan, Blair spent the day worried that it would ruin their relationship. But after “amazing” drunk limo sex with Chuck, she wanted almost nothing to do with him the next day.
Calm down about the Gossip Girl ratings, guys.

People who are claiming that the barely noticeable drop in Gossip Girl’s ratings pose any threat to Dan and Blair simply do not understand general TV ratings trends or any simple statistics.

As a season progresses, it is completely natural that ratings drop, especially for shows that are as old as Gossip Girl is. For example (keep in mind that the 18-49 rating is the only thing that matters when it comes to TV ratings, total viewers is meaningless):

  • In the fall, 90210 was consistently getting 0.8’s. It’s now getting 0.7s.
  • Hart of Dixie was getting 0.8s. Now it’s getting 0.6s.
  • Ringer was getting 0.8s, then 0.6s, and it just got a 0.4.
  • The Secret Circle was getting 1.0s, and now it’s getting 0.8s.
  • Gossip Girl was getting 0.6s, now it’s getting 0.5s

Essentially, Gossip Girl (even during the heavy Chuck and Blair episodes earlier this season) was already one of the CW’s lowest rated shows. Now, as all of the other shows drop in the ratings, so is Gossip Girl. And it’s not just CW ratings that are dropping. Just go to tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com and look at all of the ratings posts from last week. Everything dropped. Everything. On every channel. Not just Gossip Girl.

And if that’s not enough to quell your fears, let’s look at simple correlational logic. So yes, last week GG’s ratings dropped from a 0.6 to a 0.5 and remained at that level this week. Dan and Blair have also been more romantically involved in these last two episodes. Could it be this is the cause? Yes. But what else has been different these two episodes:

  • Chivy has returned from a couple episodes away. Maybe people didn’t want to see her anymore, so they dropped out.
  • Louis hasn’t been in these last couple episodes. Maybe people just really wish Louis was still around.
  • Maybe people hate the Nate/Chola romance and are tuning out.
  • Maybe people just don’t like Gossip Girl anymore in general.

So if you don’t accept the general TV ratings decline trend as a valid reason, and you’re looking for a storytelling reason to explain the drop, there are plenty of possibilities. People are just trying to spin the story their way, Dan/Blair fans, so don’t let it ruin our fun. Our favorites are finally working it all out, it is perfect, and that’s all that matters.

In which I break my 4 month Tumblr silence to go on a Gossip Girl rant (basically this can be called: Why Dan/Blair is forever better than Chuck/Blair)

So. Gossip Girl. Let me start this out by saying how I haven’t been one of those people clinging to Dan and Blair scenes since season 1. I was actually pretty into the whole Chuck/Blair thing in season 1, season 2, and a good portion of season 3. Then Chuck started acting like he owned Blair, and then I immediately started to hate them together.  Because frankly, Blair deserves infinite amounts of better than Chuck has ever and could ever give her.

Okay, now that I’ve stated that, let me talk about how Dan and Blair are completely and 100% perfect for one another. I do not see how any human being with functioning eyes, ears, a brain, and emotion-controlling neurotransmitters could possibly want Blair to end up with Chuck over Dan. And here is why:

Dan has been there for Blair through EVERYTHING. When he says that all he wants is for Blair to be happy, he actually ACTS like all he wants is for Blair to be happy. He protects her from the world while she struggles with her paternity test. He sets her up to be with Chuck (sacrificing his own happiness) to make sure she ends up with who he thinks she wants to be with. He wrote Louis’ damn vows and had no intention of EVER using it to his advantage. He did it because he knew it would make Blair happy.

And let’s face it, since Gossip Girl has started, Blair has not been happy often. She’s had to deal with being in Serena’s shadow, the entirety of her relationship with Chuck (which she said made her ASHAMED OF HERSELF, by the way), her fish-out-of-water scenario at NYU, but then what happened? She started talking to Dan Humphrey, and her world lightened up. It got to the point where Dorota even asked her about it. What was making her happy? Where did she find her center? In Dan Humphrey, of course.

Chuck, on the other hand, has treated her as if she is his property multiple times. Whether it is acting as her pimp and trying to trade her to a skeezy uncle of his or yelling at her that she is “his” and then swinging a fist to her face, he is straight up treating her as an object (Chuck treating women as objects? how surprising), an object he feels he should be able to control and abuse whenever he sees fit. And to those that think Chuck has “changed”, let’s look and see how this last episode ended. It ended with Chuck using Alessandra (Chuck using women? I’m starting to see a theme here…) in order to screw over Dan.  From the picture he saw, all he knows is that Blair clearly likes Dan enough to kiss him. If sabotaging Dan’s book is some kind of revenge to ruin him, wouldn’t logic think that Blair, who may have feelings for the guy, might be unhappy with this result? Isn’t this just another scenario where Chuck is indirectly hurting Blair? You know, for a guy that claims to love Blair and want her happiness, he sure acts IN THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE WAY.

And yes, I know, BUT DAN LEAKED THE GOSSIP GIRL VIDEO! Well, even if he did, there is no way he had any selfish motivation. There is no way he expected Blair to run off into his loving arms and kiss him and be with him after that because she had shown no romantic interest in him up until that point. He saw her marrying into a loveless marriage, and he tried to stop it for her sake.

Okay, well, I’ll stop now. Essentially, the relationship between Dan and Blair is natural, mature, based on common interests, built on actions, and involves mutual happiness while the relationship between Chuck and Blair is destructive, shameful, abusive, immature, and built on lies and empty, meaningless words. Is it really hard to think Blair deserves a guy who can treat her right?

What makes the Kyle Chandler win so much better is that

not only did he deserve it 100% completely until the end of time,

but it was also a big old slap in the face to AMC who delayed Breaking Bad in order to get Jon Hamm the award.  As much as I love Hamm, Chandler deserved it more than him, and AMC, that’s what you get for screwing over Breaking Bad just to appease Matthew Weiner (who didn’t even win for best writing because FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS BEAT YOU AT THAT TOO).

Hey, remember that time that Kyle Chandler won an Emmy for the Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series for all the fantastic work he did on Friday Night Lights?

And remember how Minka Kelly presented it to him after screaming his name in joyous surprise, almost crying, and kneeling as he approached her?  Remember how the rest of the cast was freaking out over Twitter after seeing it happen?

Remember when Jason Katims penned the greatest series finale ever written, and then he ended up winning an Emmy for BEST WRITING IN A DRAMA SERIES? And how it was one of the most unexpected but most deserved award of the night? Remember?

MY TWO LEGITIMATE THOUGHTS ON THE NEW REBECCA BLACK VIDEO

  • I honestly wish it was more like her first one. How awesome would it be if she released ANOTHER inane song about nothing? But instead she just goes for ripping of Kelly Clarkson. Disappointing.
  • How do you think all those ex-So You Think You Can Dance-ers feel?  Your career consists of being in a Rebecca Black video? Mark went on to dance with Lady Gaga. Twitch and Kherington have been in films. Chelsie is on Dancing With the Stars.  And you guys all have a cameo in Rebecca Black’s music video doing pseudo-NappyTabs dance steps? Embarrassing.
  • EDIT: THOUGHT #3: At 0:58 the guy dancing beside her had his face blurred out.  I… just… HAHAHAHAHA!
